About Dino’s Piano Lessons and Accompaniment Service in Ventura County
Meet Dino Sordilla
Hello and welcome. My name is Dino Sordilla, and for more than 25 years I have been teaching piano and working as an accompanist in the Ventura County area. Music has been at the center of my life since my earliest years of study. I attended the University of the Pacific where I earned degrees in both business management and piano performance. At the Pacific Conservatory of Music, I studied with Dr. Rex Cooper, a teacher whose influence still guides my approach to both playing and teaching.
My first experiences as an accompanist came at age fifteen when I began working with a ballet class. Those early opportunities taught me how to follow and support other performers, and I discovered that I truly enjoyed being part of someone else’s musical journey. A few years later, my sight-reading skills opened doors in musical theater and high school productions around Ventura County. Even today, I continue to work with choirs, theater groups, and soloists who need an accompanist they can count on.
At the same time, I have devoted decades to teaching piano. Over the years I’ve guided students as young as six, teens who want to grow their skills for school music programs, and adults who finally found the time to pursue a lifelong dream of learning piano. This mix of teaching and performing has given me a well-rounded perspective: music is not only an art but also a way to connect people, create community, and inspire confidence.

Piano Lessons in Ventura County
My approach to piano lessons is relaxed but focused. I want students to make steady progress while still enjoying the process. Lessons are fun, personal, and adapted to each learner’s pace. Some students move quickly, others take more time, both are welcome in my studio.
Students not only learn how to play but also gain skills in theory, music history, performance, and interpretation. I make sure they are exposed to different styles, from classical and worship music to musical theater and popular songs. For students interested in structured programs, I also prepare them for the Royal Conservatory of Music certificate exams.
One of the things families appreciate is that I travel to them. I provide in-home piano lessons across Ventura County, creating a comfortable environment where students feel free to learn and ask questions. This convenience also makes it easier for busy parents and working adults to stay consistent with lessons.
Piano Accompaniment Service in Ventura County
In addition to teaching, I have built a reputation as a piano accompanist. My role as an accompanist is to support performers so they can shine. Over the years, I have played for:
School choirs (middle and high school groups throughout Ventura County)
Musical theater productions (from local high school shows to community theater)
Church worship services (including special productions for Easter and Christmas)
Vocal and instrumental soloists (students, professionals, and community musicians)
Accompaniment requires strong sight-reading skills, adaptability, and the ability to follow a performer’s interpretation. These are strengths I have developed over decades of practice. I work closely with singers and instrumentalists to ensure rehearsals run smoothly and performances feel confident.
For many families and groups, finding an accompanist can be challenging. My goal is to make the process easy and reliable. Whether you need someone for rehearsals, auditions, or live performances, I provide professional accompaniment tailored to the setting. Commonly Asked Questions
I usually recommend starting lessons at age four or older. At this age, children have developed enough focus, coordination, and reading ability to learn effectively. Teens and adults are welcome as well. Many adults start lessons later in life and find it rewarding. In fact, some of my most motivated students are adults who finally gave themselves the gift of learning piano.
My teaching style is laid back but effective. Students progress at their own pace without the stress of a high-pressure environment. I adapt lessons for every individual, whether they are talented beginners, curious learners, or students with special needs. Over the years, I’ve seen students thrive because the lessons are fun, practical, and easy to follow.
I teach a wide variety of styles. Students learn classical pieces, worship music, and selections from musical theater. I also introduce them to chord symbols and improvisation, which help in popular and contemporary music. By learning across styles, students build strong technical skills and a deep appreciation for music as a whole.
Yes, students need an instrument to practice on between lessons. A piano or a digital keyboard works best. For families who do not have one right away, I can provide a Yamaha digital keyboard on loan at no cost. This ensures that lessons can start immediately without added financial pressure.
Lessons are scheduled once a week in your home. Each session lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour. I keep monthly tuition the same whether the month has four or five weeks, making payments simple and predictable. This system allows students to focus on learning without confusion over fees.
I understand that life happens. If a student becomes sick or a family goes on vacation, I am flexible with scheduling. I offer make-up lessons when possible so students do not lose progress. While I do not offer credits for missed lessons, families appreciate the opportunity to reschedule and keep learning consistently.
I teach most days of the week. Wednesday and Saturday are my days off. After-school times are always in high demand, so I recommend booking early if that is the best time for your family. Sunday afternoons are available, though I prefer weekday lessons when possible.
As an accompanist, I play for school choirs, solo performers, theater productions, and community events. I work closely with singers and instrumentalists to provide reliable, professional accompaniment. Whether it is a rehearsal or a live performance, I ensure the music supports the performer and enhances the overall experience.
>Yes. For students who want to pursue a structured path, I can prepare them for the Royal Conservatory of Music certificate program. This is an excellent opportunity for students to challenge themselves, gain recognition, and develop disciplined practice habits. Preparation includes technical skills, performance, and theory.
Families choose me because I bring years of experience, a flexible teaching style, and a genuine love for music. I come directly to your home, making lessons convenient and comfortable. Students learn not only to play but to understand and enjoy music. Whether you want lessons for a child, an adult, or need a reliable accompanist, my goal is always the same: to share the gift of music in a way that fits your life.
